Before Kevin and I picked up my grandparents and hit the road last Friday night, we stopped for dinner at one of our favorite places. THE BURGER BAR! Since we were up in Ogden we couldn't miss the opportunity.

If you didn't know, The Burger Bar is my family's establishment in Roy UT, a delicious little burger stand started by my Grandpa Ben in 1956. It is so yummy and it is now famous! They were featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network. Check it out!

 

The classic burger to order at the Burger Bar is called the Big Ben, in honor of the founder. My Grandpa Ben is an incredible man. Not only did he start the yummiest burger place in Utah, he is an honored World War II veteran, with amazing stories and medals to prove it. He was a pilot in the Navy, and flew planes off aircraft carriers! My family interviewed him and wrote a book of all his stories in the war and with my Grandma Rita. I read it a couple of summers ago and couldn't put it down! His life is amazing and so full of adventures, love, and hard work. He even had a story published in the Ensign of February 2012- Your Crops Will Freeze! (third story from the top). My grandpa is one cool guy, and is still going strong at the age of 92!

My dad always tells us about working his teenage years away at the Burger Bar, slaving over the fries, making shakes and cleaning into all hours of the night. I've grown up eating Burger Bar since I was tiny. Every time we traveled to Utah, grabbing food at the Burger Bar was a must. Dad would always take us through the "secret" employee back door, where you have to have VIP family access to enter. We would always see Uncle Dave, who took over after my Grandpa, and our cousins Jessie, Joe, Merrie and Maddie working at the grill. As kids we thought it was so cool that Dad could go make us our own special order shakes and root beer floats. And we always got free food!

To me, the memories and the family ties make it the best burgers, fries and shakes in the whole world. But to attest that I am not completely biased just because of family, Kevin even gets craving for the food there too since he has been introduced. So if you're ever in Roy UT, check it out!
